The Subclass 407 Training visa lets foreign nationals undertake structured workplace-based training in Australia. Three streams apply: professional development, completing an overseas qualification, and training for professional registration. Applicants need a sponsor, functional English, and must be 18+.

Stays are up to 2 years; not renewable. Work is restricted to approved training activities (Condition 8102). Partners and dependent children may be included; dependents over 18 can work up to 40 hours per fortnight. There is no pathway to permanent residency.

Must be sponsored by an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor.

Must be nominated by the sponsor (unless the sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency).

Must have functional English language skills.

Must have adequate financial support.

Must have adequate health insurance for the stay in Australia.

Must meet health and character requirements.

Must have a genuine intention to stay temporarily in Australia for the purpose of the training.
