Overview

An offshore permanent visa for children under 18 whose parents are deceased, missing, or unable to care for them, to live with a relative in Australia.

The Subclass 117 is an Australian permanent visa for single children under 18 whose parents are deceased, missing, or unable to provide care. The child must apply from outside Australia and be sponsored by a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

The visa grants permanent residency with full work and study rights — no renewal needed. Processing is slow, typically 28 to 72 months. Sponsors must submit Form 40CH; the child applies via Form 47CH. Character checks apply for all applicants.

This visa is ideal for orphaned or abandoned children outside Australia who have a relative able to sponsor and support them in Australia long-term.
