Volunteer social service permit for non-profit organizations in Austria, valid up to 12 months with no extension or family reunification rights.
The Stay Permit for Social Service Employees (Aufenthaltsbewilligung – Sozialdienstleistender) enables non-Austrians to participate in voluntary social services at non-profit organizations. Issued by the Austrian Ministry of Interior (BMI), it is designed for cultural and social exchange participants who wish to contribute to charitable or humanitarian work.
The permit is valid for a maximum of 12 months and is non-renewable; no extension is possible. A EUR 218 application and issuance fee applies, with processing taking 90–180 days. Spouses and dependents are not permitted to work or reside as part of this visa. Critically, applicants cannot hold this permit again within three years of its expiration.
This visa is ideal for volunteers from abroad seeking a structured pathway to participate in non-profit social work in Austria without requiring advanced employment contracts.
