The Family Member Residence Permit allows spouses, registered partners, and unmarried children under 18 of third-country nationals with valid Austrian residence permits or Austrian citizens to join family members in Austria. Spouses and partners must be at least 21 years old.

The annual quota is established by the Settlement Ordinance (Niederlassungsverordnung) and distributed across the nine federal provinces. It applies specifically to family reunification of third-country nationals where the sponsor does not hold a quota-exempt title. Applications are processed chronologically; if the quota is exhausted, applicants are placed on a waiting list for the following calendar year.
